INOC Deploys Secure 10-Gigabit Network and Provides NOC Services for RSNA Trade Show
CHICAGO, IL, NOV. 26, 2006 - The event is RSNA 2006 bringing together the radiology community to share ideas, explore the latest advances in scientific research, participate in educational courses, and view breakthrough technologies displayed in the technical exhibition; the event supports more than 750 vendors, numerous scientific exhibits, and over 70,000 attendees.
The RSNA network (RSNAnet) spans 120 network closets and is built with 10 Gigabit Ethernet technology this year. The network allows attendees and exhibitors to check email, view and exchange PACS radiological images, access exhibit information and surf the web using their laptops, tablet PCs and PDAs.
INOC builds a temporary Network Operations Center (NOC) at the convention facility to monitor and manage the network during the day; the INOC NOC in Madison, WI takes over during the night.
Each year, multiple vendors sponsor RSNAnet by providing equipment. This year, INOC obtained equipment from Force10, ADVA Optical, Meru, Packeteer, Fortinet, and TippingPoint Technologies.
The following highlights aspects of RSNAnet 2006:
- Premium Ethernet services (10 Mbps to 1 Gbps) are delivered by a flexible 10-Gig core using Force10 routers and switches.
- SLA Management services are provided using ADVA Optical’s FSP150 intelligent Ethernet access products; variables such as Latency, Jitter, and Packet Loss are monitored and managed.
- Wireless hot spots across the show floor are enabled with Meru Networks' WLAN System, which provides QoS and load balancing in high user-density environments.
- Traffic shaping on the Internet connections is accomplished using Packeteer’s PacketShaper 6500s.
- Firewall, AntiVirus, and Intrusion Prevention have been implemented both internally on every network segment, as well as externally on Internet connections. Fortinet FG-500As, FG-800s, and TippingPoint 2400s are deployed for this purpose.
INOC uses its iMonitor OSS and implements detailed processes and procedures for monitoring and managing the network 24x7.
